We are excited to offer a truly Canadian experience! Come spend a few days with us as we harvest our delicious maple syrup. Guests can take part in all aspects of the process – tapping the trees, collecting and boiling the sap, and packaging the final product. And the most important step of all – taste testing the wonderful syrup! Accommodations are provided in our charming 6 bedroom house steps away from the sugar shack. All meals are included and served family style at the house.
Start the day with a hearty breakfast including traditional French crapes covered in Lachance maple syrup. If the morning is a little colder, the sap will not be flowing so you can strap on a pair of snowshoes or cross-country skis to explore the area. Lunch will be a self-serve buffet of hot soup and sandwiches.
Once the temperature rises above freezing, head across the road to the cabane. The day might include tapping the trees, snowshoeing through the 20 acre maple stand to check the lines, checking on the sap collected during the night or, if, the season is in full swing, boiling the sap and packaging the syrup.
In the afternoon we’ll take a break to sample tire d'érable, a Quebec tradition. Tire is maple taffy made by boiling maple sap past the point where it would form maple syrup but not so long that it becomes maple butter or maple sugar. It is part of traditional culture in Quebec, Eastern Ontario, New Brunswick and northern New England. It is poured onto the snow and then lifted with a small wooden stick, such as a popsicle stick.
Dinner is a sit down meal of traditional Quebec food with family usually followed by an animated game of cards and story telling.
Although you can enjoy this experience with little to no French language skills, it is a great place to learn the language as most of the family and residents of the small community are more conformable speaking in French.
